Michael Smith is the Director APAC Interconnection at Netflix, leading the team responsible for creating an amazing user experience through extending the Open Connect platform into Asia. Since 1995, he has worked in every facet of the Internet industry, from ISP services, to Datacenter, to CDN. He was the Chair for the NANOG Board of Directors, a Member of Board at the Seattle Internet Exchange, and a Program Committee Member for APRICOT. Mike continues to volunteer with organizations with a mission to make the Internet better.

Comparing trends of subscriber and traffic growth and scaling to meet rapidly increasing demand
In Taiwan, subscriber growth is increasing at a very slow rate, but subscriber usage continues to grow at an ever-increasing rate with no slowdown of demand in sight. We’ll compare global trends to those in Taiwan, and discuss how we can meet this ever-increasing demand while maintaining a high quality of experience for the user, with an eye towards peering and interconnection in general as a means to that end.
